Hi!I need a pair of active speakers to connect to my Yamaha TT-500U table. Since I don't have a lot of space, I want to get rid of my receiver and just use a preamp and active speakers. I'm considering purchasing this preamp ( ), and this pair of speakers, since they're around my budget (under $100 if possible):Does anyone have experience with these Edifier R980T 4' speakers?
I know it says they're computer speakers, but they'll work with my turntable, right? Or does anyone have better suggestions for active speakers under $100? Those Edifiers should work with your ART pre amp, I've used Edifier speakers before ranging from the multimedia lineup (2 satellites with a subwoofer) to the smaller bookshelves (R1900T3), to the larger monitors (Studio 7) and I am very pleased with their performances based on their price brackets. However, having 4' woofers will sound like a 4' woofer, if you want deeper bass and less colored mids you might want to get larger woofers. The 5' R1900T3 I had had just enough bass to make listening enjoyable, but cannot fill a mid sized bedroom.
Jan 15, 2019 I’VE always wondered why Denafrips has been under the radar. Reading about impressions and how people rate the entry-level Ares have piqued my interest even more, yet reviews of this unit are few and far in between. For those who don’t know, Denafrips is. The Cornet 145's by Jamo will impress you with their clear reproduction of the mid and high range capability. Though the low frequency leaves something to be desired, these things sound great, in my opinion. The classy build quality of Jamo with great connections.
They are budget speakers after all. I can recommend to you the Roth Audio VA4 Active speakers. The provide great sound quality across the frequency range, they are built really well and are simple to setup and adjust. They are designed for turntable use so they also come with a built in phono pre-amp in case you need it.They also have a 3.5mm jack input, Optical in (for if you wanted to connect them to a TV) and USB and Bluetooth connectivity.I am not sure if they are available in the states, looking at the back they are compatible with your voltage (110V at 60Hz). These below are very similar to what I have.

But a little electrical tape over it fixes that. Can't comment on the exact speakers you posted, but my speakers have a similar driver size (4.5' woofer) and they sound excellent to me. Someone above said something of that size can't fill a bedroom, but I find mine do excellent. Also, I'm in an apartment so it's a plus to not have a lot of low frequencies. That was me, I stand corrected. We might have different sized rooms/bedrooms and the houses here are all brick n mortar so none of those drywall or wood structures. Sound don't permeate as easily and we can get lower frequencies going on.However, moving from my current bookshelves, the Elac Debut B5 (5' woofers) to floorstanders Jamo Cornet 90 IV (3' mids, dual 8' woofers) I realized how much low end information I've been missing out only after I can hear them.
The Elac B5 are no slouch either, they're better than the 3 way Edifier Studio 7 they replaced (with 6.5' woofers, 4' mids). Ammarmariti wrote:That was me, I stand corrected.

I added the Adam Sub7 briefly, but the bass made me too nervous that the neighbors would complain, so I returned it. It is quite obvious in one song-Thirty-Three by The Smashing Pumpkins-that I don't get the full low end.
Around the 39s mark there's supposed to be a very low bass note, which I can hear fine on my Dynaudio BM5a's, but I barely hear it on the Adams. Still, despite that slight lack in low end, it doesn't bother me too much on the turntable. I don't have many songs where it's that noticeable. The controls are volume, treble and headphone socket on the right hand speaker.
I can highly recommend them for good high output, no distortion that I can detect and excellent full bodied sound with excellent frequency range. By now the newer models are probably even better.
I have never changed them with all the new computers because they are so enjoyable to listen to. Well within your budget I am sure and you say you have a pre-amp so that is good.Good luck, contented.
I don't know a whole lot about Jamo speakers, other than they are a well built budget minded speaker company. They were popular back in the 80's in the US, but I haven't seen much of them since. I couldn't find this exact speaker on the net, but found this.' Offered a pair' meaning for free, or for a fee? I guess it depends on what is expected in return.
The reviewer didn't seem to fall in love with them. He's done quite a bit of reviewing though, and some pretty impressive speakers I might add!
